Premières Côtes de BordeauxThe building is part of the French national heritage
Château de Paillet-Quancard was recorded in the inventory of the French national heritage in 1991. There are still remains dating from the 17th century but the main building was reconstructed in the 18th century, then reworked in the 19th century before being finally restored in the latter part of the 20th century. The tile-covered west elevation of the house is flanked by 2 square pavilions with slate roofs. A square dovecote is connected to the house by a wall with an arched doorway.

The property down through history
his very old vineyard was bought in the 18th century by Squire d’Alphonse, canon of the church of Bordeaux. It was subsequently handed down to Adélaïde de Bacalan, to the knight J.-B. d’Alphonse, councillor with the Bordeaux Parliament and to the Countess of Vassan. In the 19th century, it was one of the properties of the Fery-d’Esclands family.
Château de Paillet was bought by the Quancard family in 1968.

Situation
Situated 30 km to the south-east of Bordeaux, the Château de Paillet owes its name to the neighbouring village of Paillet. Paillet comes from the Latin « palea » meaning “straw”. The village is well worth a visit for its old houses and small Romanesque church of Saint-Hilaire, reworked in the 17th century.
The vineyard, the majority planted on the hillsides overlooking the town, now covers a total of 40 hectares with 36 under vines.
