A family history indissociable from the terroir of Bordeaux Pierre Quancard was a home distiller when in 1844 he founded the first trading company under the name of «Quancard & fils». Always striving for perfection, he tirelessly criss-crossed the Gironde vineyards on horseback to find the exceptional wines that were soon to establish the reputation of his company.
His sons subsequently proved to be equally demanding, each in his own field. Eugène Quancard travelled the world looking for new products and devoted all his talent to adapting them to the specific characteristics of the family firm, while his brother, Jean, bent all his business acumen to the successful management of the company.
Marcel Quancard, Eugene’s son, was known for his boundless thirst for knowledge and discovery dedicated exclusively to the development of «Quancard & fils». Particularly well versed in science, he contributed very substantially, thanks to his oenological experience, to increasing the competences of the company in that field.

Both grower and trader-vintner In 1968, the company bought a new property: Château de Paillet, as an addition to the historic estate of Château de Terrefort, purchased by the family in 1891 and to Château de Bordes, bought in 1948. From the point of view of Marcel Quancard, who was working with his father, the development of the family-held vineyards was the way to stand out from all the other Bordeaux wine merchants and to further perfect his knowledge of the product by direct, hands-on experience in the field.

The birth of Cheval Quancard In 1985, encouraged in that direction by Roland (Marcel’s son), Marcel and Christian Quancard decided to go one step further in defining the identity of their company which took on the name of «Cheval Quancard». It was a brilliant idea which was to greatly facilitate in the following years the firm’s communication around Quancard products, especially on the export market. It also considerably contributed to the growing success of the company and to the expansion of its export business.

Positioning and values Roland and Aris Quancard, respectively Chairman of the Board and Managing Director, are now in charge of a company which has become one of the leading family firms in Bordeaux in the wine trade. Cheval Quancard is positioned as a reliable partner, focused on quality and tradition, with the emphasis on professionalism and customer service. Its speciality is « Everything from Bordeaux in all its diversity ». The values that the company has defended, passed down from generation to generation and still maintained today, are inextricably linked to the region of its origins and to the authenticity of the products it markets.
